The Leader horse lead works by allowing a horse freedom of movement. The stretch in the lead gives way where normal ropes snap straight, and most horses will calm down very quickly after realising they can move: a tug or two usually does the trick. It is simply remarkable what an effect this elasticity can have.

A few horses will get fired up and give the rope a real workout - there are few situations as potentially explosive as a panic-stricken horse struggling on the end of a taut leadrope. Unlike cotton ropes or leather leads the rope won't cause the horse to fall over and make the panic worse, but let them remain upright until they "figure it out" as they always eventually do.

The patented Leader horse lead consists of a solid extruded rod core and dacron cover that can withstand up to 2125 lbs (9.4 kN) of force.

But by far the best feature of The Leader kicks in when it DOES fail under pressure: the dacron cover absorbs all the tension if this horse lead snaps so there is no whiplash whatsoever.
